Rory McIlroy Admits Feeling "Lost" After Playoff Opener, Form Concerns Mount

Despite having already secured his spot in the next round, McIlroy's (+8) score placed him better than only two other competitors in the field. This sluggish start has prompted concerns regarding his current form as the playoffs continue.

Following his final round, McIlroy acknowledged a significant lack of preparation. He stated he "didn't come in here with a ton of reps" and "didn't do a ton of practice." He described the week as a constant struggle, admitting that "the more the week went on, the more I felt lost with my golf swing a little bit." McIlroy elaborated that his "swing wasn't in sync," preventing him from ever feeling comfortable on the course.

This approach has drawn scrutiny, with some observers suggesting the PGA Tour might not be pleased with the world No. 2's perceived light schedule this season. He expressed hope that these late improvements would carry over, but conceded he would "have to work pretty hard" before the BMW Championship to feel competitive. He plans to reconnect with his coach, Michael Bannon, and caddie, Harry Diamond, ahead of the next event.
