Dead-heat rules explained

What are dead-heat rules in golf betting?
When two or more golfers tie for a position that has fewer payout spots than tied players, dead-heat rules apply. Your stake is reduced proportionally — multiplied by (spots available ÷ players tied) — and paid at full odds on the reduced stake. The rest of the stake is refunded.
How is a dead heat settled? (example)
Say you back a top-5 finish at +400 for $20, and 3 golfers tie for what would be 4th–6th, with 2 of the 5 paid spots left. The dead-heat factor is 2 ÷ 3 = 66.7%. So $13.33 of your stake is settled at +400 (returning $66.67) and $6.67 is refunded.
Do dead heats affect outright winner bets?
Outright winners are usually decided by a playoff, so dead heats rarely affect the win market. They most often hit finishing-position and each-way place bets, where many golfers can share the cut-off position — exactly the markets this calculator covers.
