2026 Open Championship Field Takes Shape at Royal Birkdale, Futures Markets Emerge

The Open Championship is set to return to Royal Birkdale from July 16-19, 2026, marking its position as the final major of the golf season. Located in Merseyside, the historic links course will host a large and varied field, comprising players from the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and LIV Golf, alongside past Open champions. Qualification for the prestigious event occurs through various routes established throughout the golf calendar.

A notable addition to the qualification structure is the dedicated category for LIV Golf players, introduced by the R&A in 2025. This pathway grants a spot to the highest-ranked LIV Golfer in the standings who is not otherwise exempt, provided they finish within the top five through the LIV Dallas event in late June. Sergio Garcia, currently priced at +15000 (FanDuel), was the first player to secure an Open Championship berth via these LIV rankings for the 2025 tournament. For the 2026 Open, Joaquin Niemann, available at +15000 (FanDuel), has earned the LIV Golf exemption.

The 2026 championship follows Scottie Scheffler's victory at Royal Portrush in 2025. Scheffler, a prominent figure in professional golf, is currently priced at -148 (Pinnacle) in other tournaments, reflecting his consistent performance. Beyond the specific LIV Golf category, additional qualification opportunities include a Last-Chance Qualifier, scheduled for July 13, 2026, where up to 12 players will compete for a spot in the Birkdale field.
