Jim Furyk Overhauls Ryder Cup Data Team, Hires Analytics Experts Justin Ray and Hunter Stewart

U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Jim Furyk has initiated a significant strategic shift in preparation for the upcoming competition, appointing a new data analytics team. This decision marks his first major behind-the-scenes change since taking the helm, signaling a willingness to innovate even in areas that have previously seen success. The new analytical effort will be spearheaded by Justin Ray, a prominent golf statistics expert, and Hunter Stewart, aiming to optimize captain's picks and pairings.

The new team replaces Scouts Consulting Group, led by Jason Aquino, which had provided data support for the U.S. side in most international men’s golf team competitions since 2016. Scouts Consulting Group had a notable track record, assisting Furyk during his victorious captaincy of the U.S. Presidents Cup team in 2024. The group also supported Davis Love III in his successful 2016 Ryder Cup and 2022 Presidents Cup campaigns. Davis Love III is currently listed at +50000 (Bovada) for the US Senior Open.

Furyk emphasized that the decision was made with the best interests of the U.S. team in mind, despite his personal regard for the outgoing team. "I really want to make it clear that I’m a big fan of Jason Aquino, he’s very talented and I learned a lot from Jason and consider us friends even now," Furyk told Golfweek. He further elaborated on the rationale, stating, "That conversation was difficult in some respects but ultimately I felt like we had an opportunity and I had to make the best decision for the United States team." This move underscores Furyk's commitment to leveraging advanced analytics to gain a competitive edge.

Justin Ray brings a strong reputation in golf analytics, widely recognized for his insights and data-driven commentary across various platforms, including social media. His expertise is expected to provide a fresh perspective on player performance metrics, course suitability, and strategic pairings. Hunter Stewart's role will complement Ray's, contributing to a comprehensive data-driven approach for team selection and match strategy, ultimately aiming to enhance the U.S. team's chances.
